Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Works over amendments in the tax law have been torpedoed by the Ministry of Finance whose clerks are against any changes.

The business-friendly tax changes proposed by the Ministry of Economy are blocked by the Ministry of Finance.

“The Ministry of Finance clerks have refused to cooperate in fact. We are in a pat”, Adam Szejnfeld, deputy minister of economy said.

These changes are supposed to better protect taxpayers. One of the solutions provides for the obligation to pay the tax when decision of tax authorities is approved by certain entities.

“This is a big change. No one has ever dared to propose it”, Adam Szejnfeld said.

Today, the regulations are convenient for clerks but disadvantageous for companies. For example, Optimus and JTT Computer went bankrupt because tax authorities made them pay giant taxes and only a few years later courts said that these decisions had been wrong. The Ministry of Finance is against any changes connected with responsibility for debts of members of the board. It also protests against the requirement to keep fiscal invoices for 2 years, down from 5 years today. What happens with the project now depends only on the decision of Jacek Rostowski, the Minister of Finance who was unavailable for comment.

There are some good news for entrepreneurs, however. There are going to be amendments in the labor code and the code of commercial companies.

“The Ministry of Labor agreed to shorten the number of days of sickness leave when the employer pays the wage from 33 to 14 days. It would be a relief for entrepreneurs. ZUS social insurance would have to pay the wages then”, Grzegorz Wlazlo, minister Szejnfeld’s advisor explained.

Small companies employing up to 10 people will be able to easier fire their employees.
