Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – PKP Intercity, the railway operator, had 4.5m passengers in the first half of the year, of 800,000 more than in the same period of last year. Therefore, the company had better financial results. “We reduced operating loss to PLN 1.5m (EUR 364,500). In the first half of 2004, the loss amounted to PLN 32m, or 20 times more. Sales increased in the period by PLN 60m to PLN 423.6m”, Jacek Przesluga, PKP Intercity CEO said. According to the company’s financial plan, this year’s loss should exceed PLN 20m. Although the plan has not been revised yet, the company hopes the loss to be smaller.
PKP Intercity wants to raise funds to modernise its trains. “We are holding talks with different financial institutions but I don’t want to talk about it now. We want to spend PLN 100m to repair our trans. PLN 24m has already been invested”, Intercity head added.
