The recent decision of Iveco to pull out of talks with the liquidators of commercial vehicle producer Daewoo Motor Polska may have given the idea that auto makers had lost interest in this country.

However it is now rumoured that the economy ministry is talking to one of the major international players about locating in this country.

The most likely candidate would appear to be PSA Peugeot Citroen.

Last December, Ewa Freyberg, the undersecretary of state at the economy ministry announced that the French concern was likely to propose investing in this country.

Jean Hughes Duban of PSA said that his company had no intention of investing in Poland at this moment.

Last year PSA decided to locate a factory in the Czech Republic citing over bureaucracy as one of the main reasons why Poland was not chosen.

Mitsubishi has also been named as a potential investor.

The concern noted a tripling of profits from JPY11.3bn (around EUR94m) to JPY38bn (EUR 317m).

This was achieved through controlling costs and increasing export sales.

The company has denied that it may locate a plant in Poland.

Many industry analysts, however, are sceptical about the chances of this country receiving another car plant given the weak state of the economy and the lack of infrastructure.
