Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The system of pension payments from OFE pension funds is being prepared right now. The Minister of Labor has proposed her solution but even the coalition does not support it. The time is running…

No one knows who and how is going to pay out pensions from OFE, the pension funds. Anna Kalata, the Minister of Labor has recently presented her idea. When a person retires, his/her funds collected in OFE should be transferred to ZUS, the state-owned social insurance giant which would manage the capital and pay out the pension. Pension funds have a different idea.

“ZUS should be responsible for pension pay outs only”, Krzysztof Lutostanski, PTE Bankowy CEO believed.

Ms. Kalata’s idea is not supported by the other members of the government either. Zyta Gilowska, the Minister of Finance, criticized it. Coalition partners are also against.

“I can see many more arguments against then for it”, Artur Zawisza, the MP of PiS ruling party commented.

The first pensions in the new system will be paid out in 2009. According to previous plans, private companies were supposed to pay out the pensions. Every client would decide by himself/herself who and in what form would pay out his/her pension. The Minister of Labor believes, however, that it’s better if ZUS has the monopoly here because it will be less expensive.
