The number of PKP Intercity passengers has grown by 20 percent in the last two years. According to preliminary estimates of Czeslaw Warsewicz, PKP IC CEO, in the January-March period, the company had 2.7m passengers, or 6 percent more than a year ago. New carriages will appear next year. In upcoming days, PKP IC will sign contract with Fabryka Pojazdow Szynowych, subsidy of H. Cegielski Poznan, to deliver 17 carriages of 1st and 2nd class which may go as fast as 200km/h. The tender to buy 10 locomotives is about to be concluded. The locomotives may be used as early as next year. Then, another tender will start: for trains going at least at 200km/h. Till the end of June, Brussels will decide whether to subsidize this acquisition.
The railway company wants to spend several millions zloty for new trains. It
may, however, need to revise its plans. It has recently annulled a tender to
deliver 10 sleeping carriages and 3 restaurant ones because the offers were 30
percent higher than IC had planned.
