WSE in the panic phase

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – After yesterday’s dive on the Wall Street and falls in Asia today where indices had dropped 3.5-10 percent as well as because of news that some exchanges were closed today, the WSE opened 6.17 percent down. Meanwhile, Czech PX50 was trading nearly 14 percent lower while Hungarian BUX – 10 percent lower.

All Polish blue chips were trading in the red. Even the biggest of them, including PKO BP or PKN Orlen were losing about 10 percent. KGHM copper producer was the worst performer among blue chips. Its stock dived 20 percent today. Agora media group was also very weak. Bioton insulin producer was the only blue chip with a slight loss only. The WIG20 index ended 8.1 percent down. 6 blue chips lost more than 10 percent. Shares worth PLN 2.7bn changed hands.

Investors were so engaged in the panic on the WSE that they did not notice that Euribor was losing for the second consecutive day. Interest rate of one-week intra-banking loans dropped to 4.63 percent, down from 5 percent on Wednesday.
