Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – There were hopes that the Warsaw Stock Exchange would continue increases started yesterday. The debut of Cyfrowy Polsat where the oversubscription was giant could become the positive impulse today. BRE bank’s results above expectations were another positive sign.

Cyfrowy Polsat opened 7.2 percent above the issue price. The market reacted well and the WIG20 index exceeded the psychological level of 3,000 points. But this was the best it could do. The banking sector disappointed and BRE’s report was no impulse for growth.

Bad news were record oil prices which yesterday broke the level of USD 120. In addition, Fannie Mae, the mortgage giant’s loss was three times higher than anticipated. D.R. Horton, US biggest homebuilder informed about a shocking loss plus a 25-percent decrease of orders in the first quarter.

The WIG20 index ended just 0.18 percent up at 2,984.34 points. mWIG40 gained 0.66 percent to 3,273.62 while sWIG80 shed 0.04 percent to 13,327.34 points. 187 companies ended down while 121 ones rose. It was thanks to Cyfrowy Polsat whose shares worth PLN 214m changed hands that the volume of trade exceeded PLN 1bn.
