Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – On Tuesday, Agora media group said it would close its new daily. Competition may again consider launching the new dailies they are preparing.

When “Nowy Dzien” daily was launched three months ago, analysts suggested the paper had no obvious target group and did not believe in its success. However, Agora’s decision to close the daily was a surprise.

“Recent comments of the company suggested that the management would try to strengthen “Nowy Dzien”. But this decision is good in short term because it will let Agora control its costs”, Michal Mierzwa from DM Erste said.

The decision may influence the other publishers who want to launch their own dailies.

“Nowy Dzien case shows that the Polish dailies market is shallow. Agora sends a warning to potential rivals and may discourage them”, Wlodzimierz Giller from DB Securities said.

One of the new projects is run by Michal Solowow businessman.

“We will again once more think about our project. We will analyze how much money it could absorb and how deep the market is”, Krzysztof Zdeb, the CEO of Dom Prasowy said.

On the other hand, Axel Springer, which is planning a daily, too, may be encouraged.

“I think that it may spur Springer to launch the project. His daily had a success – before it was launched it has disturbed its rival”, Rafal Oracz from CR Media said.
