Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The German retailer is going to invest over EUR 130m in Poland. The company plans organic growth and acquisitions.
Rewe Group, one of Europe’s biggest retailers with EUR 42 billion of annual sales, plans to fight for the leading position on the Polish market. It is going to relaunch the Billa supermarkets withdrawn several years ago.
“Poland is the most attractive eastern European market next to Russia. That’s why we will invest in new shops and the modernization of the existing ones over EUR 130m till the year 2010”, Alain Caparros, Rewe Group CEO said.
The group has 10 cash & carry Selgros shops. It has not been successful with its Minimal supermarkets (20). There were rumors that the network would be sold, the same way Rewe had sold 11 Billa supermarkets to Auchan group. However, today Rewe plans to triple the number of the supermarkets. The Billa brand will replace Minimal. Rewe will also increase the number of its cash & carry stores to 18.
“Next to the organic growth, we plan acquisitions”, Janusz Kulik, Minimal Polska CEO said.
