Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Lubin, where the headquarters of KGHM copper producer, are located, has 28ha of special economic zone. Since 1999 when the zone was created, no investor has decided to build his plant there.
The site has good infrastructure, is located close to A4 high-way. There are 50ha of land around the zone provided for investment projects. These are the most wanted sites among foreign investors.
“What is discouraging entrepreneurs is, among others, the average remuneration in our town, which is high due to the payments of KGHM employees. Companies fear it will be hard for them to find workers for PLN 1,000 (EUR 254) while the copper giant pays PLN 5,000”, Tymoteusz Myrda from the municipal authorities said.
Neighboring sub-zones of the same Legnicka Special Economic Zone in Zlotoryja and Legnica are occupied in 70 percent and in 100 percent, respectively.
“The municipal authorities did not take their chance to promote the zone. We did what we could to make it attractive – we decided there would be tax exemptions, we gave money to build roads but it is the town who should promote the land, and they failed”, Zofia Heksel, a local representative said.
