PKO BP to fight to maintain no1 spot
PKO BP, the largest retail bank in this country, is to spend PLN2bn on a new IT system. Henryka Pieronkiewicz, MD of the bank, states that without a new IT system the bank will not be able to grow quickly.
She hopes that installation of the system will commence before the end of next month and the first branches will have it next year and the whole process will be completed by 2006. The new system will allow clients to use any branch and cut down queues.
PKO BP assigned around PLN300m to IT projects which include Internet access. This was due in September and then put back to December when it was available only to those clients who opened an eSuperkonto account. Until the new system is available, clients will not be able to access their normal accounts through the net.
The bank also hopes to maintain its number one market position. The board hopes to agree to a plan in the summer.
