Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – KEM and Zlomrex steel distributors would like to take part in the capital increases in Szczecinska Nowa and Gdansk shipyards.

There are more and more investors interested in the booming shipyard market. Several months ago, Roman Karkosik said he was interested in acquiring Stocznia Gdanska shipyard. Ukrainian Donbas submitted an offer to buy Stocznia Gdynia shipyard. Several days ago the shares of Stocznia Gdanska were acquired by state-owned Centrala Zaopatrzenia Hutnictwa steel company. New investors have just appeared, also representing the steel industry. KEM and Zlomrex which deal in steel and scrap trade submitted their offers for Gdanska and Stocznia Szczecinska Nowa shipyards respectively.

“We have started negotiations with KEM but we are not happy”, Andrzej Jaworski, Stocznia Gdanska CEO said.

The shipyard looks for a partner who would have funds to increase its capital, by PLN 50m (EUR 12.7m) at first, and by PLN 200m altogether. KEM would need to take a credit, according to unofficial sources. “PB” was unable to contact Marian Krawczyk, KEM’s CEO.

It may be easier for Zlomrex to buy Stocznia Szczecinska Nowa. A foreign investor is also interested in acquiring a stake, however.

Stocznia Szczecinska Nowa is owned by state-owned entities. In 2004, it had PLN 1m of net income while a year earlier it was PLN 65m of net loss. The shipyard wants to invest PLN 190m and expects PLN 95m from the capital increase. Stocznia Gdanska majority owners are also state-owned companies. The shipyard expects capitalization of PLN 200m. It wants to build 12 ships annually.
