Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Korporacja Polskie Stocznie (KPS), a company founded to supervise the transformation of the shipyard sektor, revealed „Puls Biznesu” its notes concerning the future of the sector. KPS believes that Polish shipyards do need investors but not at this moment and not if they are ship management companies. Meanwhile, the only investor interested in Stocznia Gdynia, Rami Ungar, is such a company, but may get discouraged and invest in Croatia.

Rami Ungar, the ship manager who orders pure car carriers in Stocznia Gdynia, may finally give up waiting for the Polish government. The possible investor has been applying for the shipyard since 2003. According to Jerzy Konopka, KPS deputy CEO, Stocznia Gdynia is not fully ready for such a partner because its financial condition is weak and its assets are pawned.

“The investor and ship manager may stop being interested in the shipyard when the latter has built carriers for him. What then? Again Stocznia Gdynia workers will ask the state for help”, KPS note said.

“We do not want the state to help us. And as far as Rami Ungar is concerned, he negotiates with other ship managing companies who would be engaged in the shipyard. They all will not stop being interested in the shipyard at the same moment”, Dariusz Adamski, the head of Solidarnosc trade union in Stocznia Gdynia, and the member of its supervisory board, replied.

According to the British Lloyd’s List, Ray Shipping, the company owned by Rami Ungar, has ordered in Croatia 8 pure car carriers and is interested in the privatization of two Croatian shipyards.
