(Puls Biznesu) – Analysts were again surprised with very good results for the first quarter.
The first quarter of the year turned out to be much better than analysts thought.
“We were a little bit unsure about the condition of the economy this year. Today, we may say that we were positively surprised”, Janusz Witkowski, the deputy CEO of the central statistical office GUS said.
According to GUS, retail sales rose 10.1 percent in March and 9 percent in the first quarter. A year earlier the 3-month increase amounted to 3.5 percent.
“This is a very strong data proving that the economy is growing very fast”, Marcin Mrowiec, Bank BPH economist said.
Unemployment fell according to expectations. At the end of March it amounted to 17.8 percent and was 0.2 percentage points lower than in February. It is, however, still the highest in the EU. 2.82m of Poles have no job, including 86 percent with no right to receive unemployment subsidy.
