Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – PKO BP, Poland’s biggest bank as far as assets, deposits, credits, and outlets are concerned, wants to become the leader in investment funds, keep 30 percent of mortgage market and be number one in cards.

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – PKO BP, Poland’s biggest bank as far as assets, deposits, credits, and outlets are concerned, wants to become the leader in investment funds, keep 30 percent of mortgage market and be number one in cards.

PKO BP wants to increase its market share this year.

“Retail banking generates over half of PKO BP’s sales and the share keeps growing”, Jacek Oblekowski, PKO BP deputy CEO said.

The bank is going to fight for savings deposited in investment funds. Today, PKO BP has the fourth position in this market with 9 percent share.

“There is no reason to be that far with our potential. We have big chances to join the leaders. I believe that the second place, after Pekao, may be achieved in the second half of this year at the latest. This place may not be enough for us”, Jacek Oblekowski said.

The biggest sources for growth are connected with credits, including mortgages. Last year, PKO BP gave PLN 7.6 billion (EUR 2 billion) of credits while Bank BPH, the second in the ranking: PLN 4.4 billion.

“In 2003, there were three players: PKO BP, Pekao and GE Bank Mieszkaniowy. Now, there are 15 of them and all of them have good offers. PKO BP’s target is to keep its 30 percent market share whether there are limitations to give mortgages in foreign currencies or not”, Jacek Oblekowski assured.

The bank wants to increase its credits also via personal accounts. PKO BP has 5.9m of them.

“Implementing online banking helped PKO BP here. We were no longer perceived as a dinosaur. There are 1.5m clients using the internet. We want 60 percent of our clients to use online services, as it happens in EU’s best banks”, Jacek Oblekowski explained.
