The company has approached to Toyota, the leader as far as mass sales numbers for 2005 are concerned. ‘It is very tempting to become leader but not at any price’, Leszek Plonka, Skoda Auto Poland head said.

Despite the April victory, Skoda sold 59.2 percent fewer cars than last April, when sales were boosted by new VAT rules. ‘Imports of second-hand cars and adverse fiscal solutions are the reason for us to cut our forecast of sales from 36,000 to about 34,000’, Skoda’s head said. He added that it was not the sales but the market share that counts today. Skoda would like to have over 10 percent of the Polish market (today it has over 12 percent).Poland/Enterprises/Automotive
