The new management of the Ministry of Infrastructure believes that the strategy adopted by Law and Justice (PiS) government, was correct. The strategy will be implemented. Juliusz Engelhardt, the deputy minister of infrastructure responsible for railways, is very satisfied that the first government since 1990 is not going to throw away the work made by its predecessors. On the contrary, it wants to implement it.
“There is no other way. We have to finish the process of PKP restructuring started seven years ago, and we have to reduce debts of the group. Otherwise, the company will remain unchanged”, Juliusz Engelhardt said.
At first, PKP assets will be divided. PKP companies will get their own trains and technical bases. Today, PKP Przewozy Regionalne (regional transportation) and PKP Intercity do not have locomotives. PKP Cargo has locomotives but it does not have access to many buildings it needs. PKP PLK owns railways but the land the railways are lying on belongs to PKP. Another task is to reduce the debt of PKP PR. The ministry of infrastructure plans to give shares of the company to local governments after debts are paid back.
“We want to conclude asset conveying and debt reducing at PKP PR this year”,
Juliusz Engelhardt said.
