Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – P4 is close to sign a key agreement with Polkomtel mobile operator. British Vodafone wants to prevent it.

P4, an operator owned by Netia listed telecom and Novator, a fund from Island, has agreed a roaming agreement with Polkomtel mobile operator which would allow it to enter the Polish market as the fourth mobile telecom.

“We have settled down details of the agreement and I hope to sign it early this week”, Chris Bannister, P4 CEO said.

He did not confirm, however, that the talks are being led with Polkomtel.

However, British Vodafone, the owner of 19.61 percent stake in Polkomtel, does not agree to sign the document.

“Polkomtel may sign the roaming agreement. However, it must comprise details which would be accepted by all parties interested”, Ben Padovan, Vodafone spokesman said.

According to “Puls Biznesu” sources, Vodafone wants to delay negotiations.

“One of foreign minority shareholders has asked the telecommunication authorities to explain several details and he should receive the explanations soon”, Chris Bannister said.

“I’ve talked to the representatives of the companies and was trying to explain that unless they reach agreement, the regulator will make decision. The public is the regulator’s most important criterion so it can force the access to the mobile network even if the conditions are worse than on the market”, Anna Strezynska, the CEO of the Electronic Communication Authorities UKE said.
