WIG20 did not manage to come back above 2,600 points

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The WSE opened 30 minutes earlier today, at 9 am. Ludwik Sobolewski, the WSE CEO, decided that the market should be available earlier because this is when foreign investors plan their investments.

The WIG20 index reached 2,585 points in the morning. All investors watched what was going on with Gustav hurricane. The closer it got to the USA, the weaker it was. Oil prices started to fall. WIG20 was gaining several points with every single good news. However, it didn’t manage to reach 2,600 points, and closed 13 points lower ending the day 0.49 percent down.

Cersanit ceramics producer was the best blue chips with more than 6.3 percent gain. KGHM copper producer was the worst performer after the news that copper inventories are the highest in over seven months. KGHM lost 3.2 percent.

Small and mid-caps were not affected by the hurricane. Michal Solowow companies were doing very well with Barlinek floor producer adding 1.33 percent, Echo homebuilding company gaining 2.22 percent and Synthos chemical company grew 3.3 percent. mWIG40 rose 0.77 percent while sWIG80 ended 0.38 percent up.

Despite earlier opening, the volume of trade was very low and amounted to PLN 500m. Last Monday, it amounted to PLN 456m and was record low. Today, US investors did not work because of Labor Day.
