New records set on the GPW

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – New records were set today by both the WIG20 and WIG indices. They were, however, not much higher than recently. WIG20 amounted to 2,144.09, or just 5 points more than on July 20th. WIG ended at 29,601.54, or only 0.28 percent above its record as of July 14th. In comparison to yesterday, the WIG20 rose 0.67 percent. Shares worth PLN 490m (EUR 119.

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – New records were set today by both the WIG20 and WIG indices. They were, however, not much higher than recently. WIG20 amounted to 2,144.09, or just 5 points more than on July 20th. WIG ended at 29,601.54, or only 0.28 percent above its record as of July 14th. In comparison to yesterday, the WIG20 rose 0.67 percent. Shares worth PLN 490m (EUR 119.1m) changed hands but it was mainly due to BPH bank whose shares worth PLN 110m changed hands.

PKN Orlen fuel giant was eagerly traded after the Ministry of Treasury confirmed “Puls Biznesu” news that offers for Polkomtel telecom stakes (owned also by PKN Orlen) had been submitted by Vodafone and TDC. The fuel giant added 1.5 percent, shares worth PLN 90m changed hands. TPSA telecom was the best performer today – it jumped 3.4 percent after four days of losses. Tomorrow, second quarter results will be published. Analysts expect net income of PLN 430.3m against PLN 550.0m a year ago.

Among smaller companies, Ster-Projekt and ZPUE jumped over 10 percent. Ster-Projekt confirmed “Puls Biznesu” news that it would sign agreement with the Agriculture Development and Modernisation Agency ARMiR to deliver IT equipment worth PLN 70.7m. ZPUE signed agreement with Osauhing Piperon of Estony worth PLN 11.5m.
