Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Yesterday, the Ministry of Education cancelled the tender for 70,000 computers for 5,000 internet classrooms. The reason were protests submitted by potential contractors. ‘They decided that in this situation it was better not to prolong the tender because there was no guarantee it would be ended’, “Puls Biznesu” source said. The ministry promised to announce new tenders as early as possible.

This years tenders are the biggest in history. Earlier, the government spent PLN 60 m (EUR 14.3 m) for school computers, this time it is PLN 200 m. Thanks to EU funds, the ministry has PLN 1.5 billion for computer classrooms. The money should be spent till the end of 2006. 20,000 schools and 15,000 libraries will receive PCs. Many companies were interested in the tender: 110 firms received tender requirements.
