Tel-Energo (TE) is preparing to take a skeleton telecommunications network from the Polish national grid, PSE. Last year the company paid around PLN90m for renting line space, this problem will be resolved through joint ownership. In exchange Tel-Energo will issue shares for PSE. State owned PSE currently has around 75 percent of Tel-Energo.
The skeleton network is over 11,000km and is only a little smaller than the 14,000km belonging to TPSA. The change in ownership of this network is seen as yet another step in preparing for the Krajowa Grupa Telekomunikacyjna which is to link state owned firms to form a competitor to TPSA. Other operators, NOM and Pro Futuro, can offer wide band internet access.
Of course a skeleton network is worth nothing without access to it. This will require contracts with other operators and in particular TPSA. The market is getting increasingly crowded and the price of data transmission is falling. Whereas prices are not falling as much as in the case of international voice calls, data transmission is today around fifty to sixty percent cheaper than two years ago.
