Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Wirtualna Polska would like to offer telecommunication services and hopes that the regulator will support it.

“We are working over projects which would change our business model. Sales generated from other sources than the advertising, including telecommunication services, may stand up for even half of the sales in upcoming years”, Dominika Herburt-Heybowicz, WP member of the board said.

She added that the company could offer MVNO, sell the access to the network.

“But we are not planning these in our business plan this year”, Dominika Herburt-Heybowicz said.

The problem consists in the decision of the portal’s owner, or TP telecom, which is not opening this market. The only hope is that the authorities, the Electronic Communication Office UKE will quickly free the market.

“We would like to be the first ones to enter the market when the regulator opens it. We are working hard to be the first ones but the decision is up to TP”, Dominika Herburt-Heybowicz said.

The new business model would enable the company to change WP brand into Orange.

“I know nothing about rebranding plans of our company especially that they don’t make sense at the present model of operations, which is based on the strength of the brand”, WP representative added.

Several days ago, the management of France Telecom decided to change the brand of all services offered by the companies from the group in the majority of 220 countries where the French operator is present. Poland is the exception for the time being but according to unofficial sources, the rebranding is supposed to be conducted in Poland, too.

This year, WP wants to generate PLN 60-70m (EUR 15.1-17.6m) of sales and over PLN 6m of net income. Last year, the company had PLN 48m of sales and PLN 5m of net loss. In the first quarter of 2006, the portal had PLN 1.3m of net income against PLN 12.5m of sales.

(PLN 1 = EUR 0.251)
