Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The Ministry of Finance will implement the excise duty for the natural gas used in cars.
The Ministry of Finance is interested in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the compressed natural gas (CNG) market, which in 2010 may be worth PLN 1 billion (EUR 252m) in Poland. According to EU assumptions, the natural gas should constitute 2 percent of the fuels used in road transports by 2010. It won’t be easy to meet these requirements without tax relieves. However, the Polish Ministry of Finance, has presented to “Puls Biznesu” its opinion viewing LNG and CNG used as fuel as a good burdened with an excise duty.
“According to the excise duty rules, if LNG is used for cars it should be taxed with PLN 695 for 1,000 kilograms”, Marek Hajbos, the temporary director of the office of the Minister of Finance said.
The situation is a little bit better for CNG.
“There is a 0 excise duty now. The CNG market is very small today and the costs of failing to tax this fuel are not very big for the budget. In the near future, the use of CNG will grow the same way as it was with LPG. Building an alternative cheap fuel may in long-time perspective influence the revenues of the state”, Marek Hajbos added.
The Ministry of Finance is therefore working over a new excise duty. A bill has been delivered to the Parliament providing for PLN 1,100 for every 1,000 kilograms of “liquid gas and natural gas” used in cars.
