Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The Ministry of Education (MEN) published data on how EU funds are being spent.

Out of PLN 3 billion worth of programs for education supported by EU funds, MEN spent less than PLN 700m till June 30th 2006. The funds were supposed to be used in the years 2004-06. However, the ministry has until 2008 to finally settle the accounts. For the last several months, however, there have been no tenders in the ministry. Computer companies complain and fear that after the control of the Supreme Chamber of Control (NIK) there will be no tenders at all.

“Puls Biznesu” was the first one to reveal NIK’s control which showed problems in big procurement processes to deliver computers for schools. Some people fear that now MEN’s officials will try not to spend EU funds at all to avoid accusations that they did something wrong. “PB” described a tender announced in spring 2006 to deliver equipment for blind students worth PLN 40m. The equipment was supposed to be delivered till the end of August but it wasn’t and MEN seems to have forgotten about it. A tender to deliver computers for schools worth PLN 200m was cancelled for a small reason.
