Donald Tusk, head of Citizens Platform (PO) and future Prime Minister stopped speculations concerning key ministries.
“PSL will get three ministries in the new government. Waldemar Pawlak will be appointed deputy PM and the Minister of Economy”, Donald Tusk revealed.
He added that 90 percent of issues have already been agreed on among coalition partners. Both parties wait for the stepping-down government to be dismissed, and Donald Tusk to be appointed prime minister by president Lech Kaczynski. The new PM will then announce the members of his cabinet.
PSL will also get the ministry of environment and agriculture. The two issues did not raise as many controversies as the decision to give up the ministry of economy.
“I won’t criticize either the choice nor the person. Decision has been made already and someone is going to be responsible here. Waldemar Pawlak is not a no-one. He used to be connected with agricultural issues in the past but today he seems to be an experienced politician”, Zbigniew Zurek, deputy CEO of the Business Center Club commented.
‘The question is whether, along with dividing the ministries, the division of obligations, joint vision, strategy and economic program have been agreed on as well. It’s not important who is the head of the ministry of economy but what he implements”, Jacek Wisniewski, Raiffeisen Bank economist believed.
In his opinion, it may be difficult for PO to keep to its pre-election promises now. The majority of them concerned economy.
“I hope, PO will take responsibility for economic decisions made by PSL head”, Jacek Wisniewski added.
The Ministry of the Treasury will not be headed by PO MP Zbigniew Chlebowski. He is supposed to become head of PO. He said that professor Jacek Rostkowski will be appointed the Minister of Finance. Jacek Rostkowski is believed to be supporter of quick EMU accession.
“The question is whether the new strategy of the Ministry of Finance will now consist in Euroland accession or whether the new minister will try to face other important issues”, Raiffeisen Bank economist wonders.
Donald Tusk said also that it’s very improbable
that taxes will be cut within two years.
