Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – The businessman is interested in the shipyard. EU would prefer him as investor better than state entities. Negotiations will be launched soon.

Stocznia Gdynia waits till April 27 for offers to buy its subsidiary Stocznia Gdanska. Before, politicians decided that a consortium of two state entities, including Energa power distributor and the Industrial Development Agency ARP, would acquire the shipyard for debts. Roman Karkosik businessman would like to invest in the shipyard.

“Roman Karkosik is interested in Stocznia Gdanska. Negotiations are starting. We will know more next week”, Karina Wsciubiak, the CEO of Alchemia, one of the companies owned by the stock investor said.

In her opinion, Roman Karkosik would either invest alone or via Alchemia or its Huta Batory steel plant.

According to Andrzej Jaworski, the temporary CEO of Stocznia Gdanska, the businessman may become the shipyard’s owner along with Energa and ARP or buy their stakes in the future. Roman Karkosik usually invests in companies to influence their management. The European Commission would prefer the private investor. It might decided that Energa or ARP is public subsidy and disapprove of this transaction.

Norwegian Aker is also interested in the shipyard. The company led long negotiations with ARP. The employees of Stocznia Gdanska does not like the foreign investor.

“I’ve not heard about Roman Karkosik’s interest in the shipyard. I haven’t received any letter of intent. The shipyard needs a sector investor who will manage it for many years. I can’t imagine Alchemia to manage the shipyards in long-term horizon”, Pawel Poncyljusz, the state secretary in the Ministry of Economy said
