Bakala interested in Silesia coal mine

Warsaw (Puls Biznesu) – Kompania Weglowa may sell Silesia to a new investor. The Czech businessman is interested.

Kompania Weglowa was supposed to sell Silesia coal mine to Gibson Group International (GGI) for PLN 200m (EUR 60.4m). The Scotch company did not finalize the transaction. Due to formal mistakes, the transaction was suspended. The case subject to court proceedings.

“We are waiting for court proceedings. We are ready for conciliation if the mine is sold to us”, Tadeusz Mrozinski, GGI representative to Poland said.

Meanwhile, Kompania Weglowa is checking other opportunities for the coal mine.

“We are getting ready for potential talks with investors”, Jacek Korski, KW deputy CEO said.

According to “PB” sources, there are numerous foreign entities interested in the coal mine which needs several hundreds million zlotys of investments. OKD, a company controlled by Czech billionaire Zdenek Bakala, is one of the potential acquirers.

“We have told KW we were interested in Silesia”, Jiri Polak, Zdenek Bakala’s advisor admitted.

Trade unionists which had signed contract with GGI, today have no contact with the investor. Because of the contract no other investors were invited to negotiate the transaction. “PB” was the first to disclose that GGI was in bad financial condition.
